ABOUT ME

Jobs
A musician since I was 15, in addition to playing jazz I've been a Catskills pianist, a Greenwich Village coffee house manager, a toy company executive for CBS, and a theatre instructor at New York University.

Theatre
I was an actor and musical director for the Classic Stage Company, and I was co-founder and for 14 years co-artistic director of the Soho Repertory Theatre, where I helped launch Kevin Spacey and Kathleen Turner.

Education
I studied art at Cooper Union, theatre at the Drama Tree and Circle-in-the-Square, and music theory with Peter Schikele ("P.D.Q. Bach") at Juilliard.

I've been a visual artist all my life, and have been designing professionally on the computer since the 1980s.

Influences
Among my pianistic influences are Art Tatum, Bud Powell, Horace Silver, Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly, and Thelonious Monk.

I'm addicted to classical music, with a special preference for Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Prokofiev, and Bartok.

Family
With my artist wife Ann Decker, whose many credits include The New Yorker and Fortune, I live in the historic Fort Greene section of Brooklyn.
